Be Who You Are

Be Who You Are

My favorite story right now, is being included in the book I am working on and it goes like this.  Warning, today’s post is long, but lovely.  :-).
In one African tribe, there is a beautiful custom that begins before a person is even born. When a woman decides she wants to have a child, she goes off alone, meditates and asks God to reveal to her the song of the soul of her child.  She spends as much time as is necessary to hear this song and when she does, she goes home and teaches it to her mate.
They sing the song together and make love, inviting the spirit of this child into their lives. After the baby is conceived, the song is taught to the women and midwives of the tribe and always sung to the baby while the woman is being cared for and examined.
As the baby’s birth approaches, the song is taught to the entire village. Every important occasion for the rest of the new soul’s life is celebrated and marked by this song; birth, status changes, weddings and even funerals. It is my belief that every act is either an expression of love, or a plea for love, so this is my favorite part of this story.
If the child is ever in trouble from breaking rules or mis-behaving in some way, instead of offering punishment, the entire community surrounds him and sings his song until he is reminded of who he really is and is directed back onto his path.
Instead of judging, chastising or punishing they offer compassion, love, support and forgiveness. In this way the child is lovingly re-directed back, reminded of his own divinity and of his oneness with the community who loves him.
What is the song of your soul? What do you see when you look into the eyes of the people in your life?  In your heart, do you find acceptance, compassion, forgiveness and love? Or do you find judgement, contempt and blame?  Which feels better to you? Which do you think adds more to the world?
You are creating your life!  Choose your thoughts, your words, your actions and your feelings and create a life you truly LOVE living!  Decide today that this is the best day of your life!
