18 Dec I Don’t Do Christmas Presents, and Here’s Why
I LOVE Christmas! I love every holiday and every reason to celebrate. Heck, I’m celebrating today that it’s Sunday for the one and only time this week! We won’t get another Sunday for seven whole days, so I’m cherishing this one!
I also love gift-giving, all types of giving and I do it all the time. If I know someone needs something and I can get it for them, I do. If I see something that I know is perfect for someone I love, I pick it up and gift it; not on Christmas, but definitely on a Tuesday. I am generous and loving, so it’s not about that. It might be that I love a LOT of people.
Just my immediate family, sibling and nieces and nephews, is 10 people. Not that unmanageable right; but now the door is opened and confusion ensues. Most of my nieces and nephews have kids of their own and they would rather I got presents for their kids than for them…..
And I have a handful of friends that are even closer than family, what about them? And then the other friends who might not be my lifelong besties, but I love them dearly all the same. Are they somehow less? My Master Mind partners and fellow coaches, my fellow meditation teachers, my yoga class…..
Suddenly a celebration of love and fun and family and the eternalness of our spirits has become a difficult, if not impossible, and definitely stressful chore that we just want to get behind us so we can get back to normal “after the holidays”. This just doesn’t make sense to me.
So let’s raise a glass and toast Christmas, baby Jesus, the Winter Solstice, Hanukah, New Years Day, Tuesday! I will give many gifts; time, love, energy, faith, laughter, smiles and lots of hugs and kisses. Just no gifts that have to be wrapped up in boxes. Unless it’s Tuesday. Merry Christmas! All my love!
